Shop for a Cause: Jewelry That Gives Back to Harboring Hearts

Written by Marketing Intern Rose Provine

Harboring Hearts is a non-profit organization that helps to provide affordable, temporary housing for cardiac patients and their caregivers in time of need. It was created by people directly affected by heart disease who are striving to help those in need.

Michelle Javian, co-founder of Harboring Hearts, lost her father to heart problems in 2008. Her father’s heart problems started during her senior year of college, when he suffered from a major heart attack. She moved back to New York to be closer to him, but still spent hours commuting to the hospital. It was during that time that she realized that others in that situation weren’t so lucky, as they had to stay in expensive housing in order to be close to their loved ones.

Yuki Kotani, co-founder of Harboring Hearts, was inspired to start Harboring Hearts Housing after her father survived a heart attack and heart transplant. She was one of his primary caretakers and fully understood the emotional rollercoaster that families and loved ones go through. During this time, Yuki met Michelle, and together, they created Harboring Hearts Housing; "to not only provide patients and caregivers with temporary housing, but a temporary home."

These whimsical wire earrings are lightweight and fun to wear! Constructed of non-tarnishing wire, they are shaped and wire-wrapped by hand.

A fun mix of polymer clay form and metal function, this wheel spins on a sterling silver axel that pulls together at the top, accented with a true blue glass bead.

This stunning necklace is adorned with a piece of rare variegated green jasper stone highlighted with streaks of gold. The multicolored layers of birch are enhanced by the details and carving.
