Great Turnkey Business Opportunity for Someone Passionate about Human Rights and Racial Unity!

OriginOne (www.iamOriginOne.com) promotes human oneness and racial unity on super cute, comfy t-shirts and thermals. You can view the great press they've received and their celeb fans on the website. Due to time constraints of the owner, she is selling OriginOne.

OriginOne was a labor of love, and it is very important for the owner to see the company continued by someone who believes in the cause and has a passion for it. The financial terms are not as important as leaving OriginOne in the hands of someone that will remain true to the movement.

That being said, this is a screaming deal for someone who has an interest in buying an established clothing company who also has a passion for oneness and racial equality. The company has NO debt - it is ALL assets. A list of the assets is available for anyone who is interested. Please feel free to share this opportunity with your friends.  The owner is willing to work out creative financing for the right person/team.

One other important note: The owner developed a relationship with one of the largest human rights charitable organizations in the world and they contacted her to develop a co-branded tee. Sadly, she doesn't have the time to pursue this and would hate to see this opportunity pass by.

Be the message.  Wear the movement.  Scream the cause without saying a word. . . I am OriginOne!!

Interested parties can contact the owner at 949-306-2747 or liz@elizabethgrp.com.

Elizabeth "Liz" Overturf: Liz's Legacy

Today is a great reminder of what I have lost, but also what I have gained. As I walked in beautiful Land Park this morning, I was reminded of how desperate I miss Liz, but of how much I have been given. I have made it no secret that I struggle with my faith – my family has lost so much – but I have been greatly blessed with friends and family. As I read the multiple e-mails I have received today from friends and colleagues of Uptown Liz (most who have never met her), telling me my family and I are in their thoughts, that I – and my company – are an inspiration, I am overwhelmed with gratitude.

I wanted to create a legacy for Liz, because what happened to her was unacceptable to me. It is unacceptable that she was misdiagnosed, and therefore left this world long before she was supposed to. It is unacceptable that all of her hopes and dreams were not fulfilled. It is unacceptable that she had to be in an excruciating amount of pain, thinking about her own funeral, knowing she was going to die. It is unacceptable that more people didn’t know her; everyone should have known her.

My sister was a bright light in this world. She was brilliant, funny, generous and loyal to a fault. When she loved you, she loved you fiercely.

Whenever anyone complements my mom on the accomplishments of her children, she always says, “I don’t know where they get it from. They certainly don’t get it from me.” Well, Mom, how very wrong you are. My mom has taught us many things: kindness, compassion, generosity, loyalty and most importantly, how to “rise to the occasion.” She does what other people won’t do; what other people consider uncomfortable. She doesn’t avoid people in their time of need, because she doesn’t know what to say, or she’s too sad. She doesn’t avoid seeing people in hospitals because she “doesn’t do hospitals” (By the way, nobody likes hospitals, especially the patients and their emotionally exhausted families in the waiting room). She didn’t tell my brother not to join the Army because it was be too hard on her (despite my many pleas). My mom has always risen to the occasion, and never more so when my sister was dying. She continues to do so, and she is why Liz, Nate and I are the people we are today.

My funny, kind, honorable and devastatingly handsome brother “rises to the occasion” every, single day. He, along with so many other brave men and women, volunteered – and sacrificed – to do something most of us don’t want to do. He experiences things we will never have to, because he wanted to make a difference, and to be a part of something bigger than himself. It is because of him, and so many before, that I have the freedom – and the luxury – to be an entrepreneur and create a legacy for Liz.

My husband “rises to the occasion” every day, by loving and supporting me, despite my many faults. He loved Liz like his own sister, and he quietly goes to her grave, spreading flowers. The only reason I have been able to create a legacy for Liz at this level is because of him.

I have a best friend, that feels so much like family to me, I forget that she wasn’t born to us. She visits Liz’s grave, talks about her so frequently, and seems to know her so well, I forget they have never met. She “rises to the occasion” by fiercely advocating and supporting others – especially me and Liz’s legacy.

Today I am reminded that it has been four years since I’ve seen my beautiful sister, but she is reminding me – and showing me – all that I have now, and that hopefully, one day, everyone will know her name.

In gratitude,
Ramona

Uptown Liz Turns Two

July 17, 2009

Happy Anniversary to Uptown Liz! Two years ago, I launched this business in memory of my 28 year old sister, Liz, who died from breast cancer on what would have been her thirtieth birthday. Not a day goes by that I'm not constantly thinking about her or desperately missing her.

I feel incredibly blessed to have this business and want to thank all of my family, friends, colleagues, retailers and nonprofits who have been so supportive. Your inspirational stories and thoughtful e-mails continue to drive me and, with your help, I have been able to create a legacy for my sister and shine a light on people who are making a difference in the world. It has been such a wonderful two years; I like to think that Liz is working her magic for me.

In gratitude,
Ramona Russell

How I Honor Liz's Memory (Elizabeth Overturf)

Today is the third anniversary of my sister Liz's death. This day isn't harder than any other day. I don't think of her more today than yesterday, last month or last year. An anniversary is just the marking of time, and it's realizing that is has been three years since I last saw my sister that is difficult.

My family, friends and I talk about Liz every day - "Liz would have loved that" or "Liz would have thought that was so funny". She was such a bright light - a force really - who left such a strong mark, that it seems she is always with us.

Liz was misdiagnosed at the age of 23 and by the time a proper diagnosis of breast cancer came at 26, it was too late. That shouldn't have happened, and it doesn't need to happen again.

I honor my sister's life in many ways; creating this business, fundraising for cancer awareness and research and by being my own health advocate. I believe that by taking care of myself, talking to others about their health and sharing the information I have learned is one of the best ways I can use my life.

If you have lost someone close to you, how do you honor their life?

Uptown Liz Featured in FranklinCovey Planners Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness

Liz's story has been featured in the new GALS planners at FranklinCovey. This is something that has been in the works for several months, and when Design-her Gals and FranklinCovey decided to partner on a special collection supporting the Gal to Gal Foundation, I was asked to write about Liz, Uptown Liz and my connection to the foundation (in order to read Liz's story, you will have to see the planners in person).

This came about because of my personal and business relationship with the founder of Design-her Gals and the Gal to Gal Foundation, Jeanne Fitzmaurice, who is a tireless advocate and warrior for breast cancer. Although we have never met in person, we have formed a "virtual", mutually supportive friendship that has meant so much to me. I first discovered Design-her Gals just a few months after Liz passed - the company was so Liz; she would have loved it. I contacted them and wrote how grateful I was that they were bringing attention to such an awful disease as stage IV breast cancer. Jeanne was the one to respond, and the rest is history.

The entire GALS Collection at FranklinCovey is phenomenal; they have outdone themselves. From totes to files to business card holders, they are the most stylish planning accessories I’ve ever seen. There is something for everyone in every price range. The products can be found at Uptown Liz (in the "Liz" section), Design-her Gals and Franklin Covey (stores and online).

My deepest gratitude to the teams at Design-her Gals and FranklinCovey for the privilege of sharing Liz's story - which I know will touch so many - and growing her legacy to "my wildest dreams".

Chic Handbags for Breast Cancer Awareness

Introducing "The Liz Collection" - handbags supporting breast cancer charities that were designed by a young sister team in Sacramento, CA. The two bags - that were seen on the red carpet of the 2008 Emmy Awards - are black with pink lining with an inspirational quote inside (see below). You can also have the charm that is attached to the bags hand stamped with the name of a loved one or word of significance.

Sisters and stay-at-home moms, Kristin Morrow and Lyndi Eimerl, founded Fuffy J. Couture in September 2006 and launched Just BeCAUSE Bags two years later. As a unique individual, Head Designer, Kristin Morrow, had always found ways to stand out from the crowd. She was a trendsetter amongst her peers without even trying. As a teenager she began designing handbags for herself out of vintage clothing and remnants of fabric she found in her mother's sewing room. These handbags - with an eclectic charm - sparked widespread interest amongst family, friends and strangers alike. As the requests came in, Kristin soon began designing handbags for her biggest fans, including her sister and best friend Lyndi. The sisters' "Aha" moment came when they recognized the unanswered demand for distinctive and artistic fabric handbags in the marketplace; prompting them to launch Fuffy J. Couture, named after their late grandfather.

Kristin's and Lyndi's second "Aha" moment came when their godmother lost her battle with cancer in July 2008, only three months after being diagnosed. This difficult loss caused them to reflect on their lives and their work as they discovered a bigger purpose in life. They wanted to impact lives in a positive way while pursuing their passion for art and fashion. Having been dedicated to partnering with important causes and donating to them previously, a new line of cause-related bags became the next logical step. After meeting Ramona Russell, founder of Uptown Liz, and hearing of her sister, Liz's, death from breast cancer at 28, the sisters were moved to name their first collection in memory of her to support breast cancer causes. The Just BeCAUSE line of handbags is this designing duo's way of giving back and offering women across the globe sophistication, sentiment, support and most importantly, hope.

The "Liz" Collection can be found at Uptown Liz or Fuffy J. Couture and retails for $125-165.

Ramona Russell of Uptown Liz Interviewed by SBTV.com

In April of this year, I had the privilege of sitting on the business panel for the Vision to Venture conference in San Diego. This event for women entrepreneurs was hosted by Microsoft Office Live Small Business, and had experts who shared insights and practical advice on how to take a business to the next level. One of the many wonderful opportunities that came from this was an invitation by Susan Wilson Solovic, CEO of SBTV.com (Small Business Television), to do a podcast interview with her company. Lisa Constance of SBTV.com asked great questions and it turned out to be one of the best interviews I have ever had. To hear the interview, click here and scroll down to the Vision to Venture Audio section and click the play button underneath my photograph.

According to their website, SBTV.com is the first television network on the web devoted 100 percent to the small business market - from business start-ups to established enterprises. They believe that being an entrepreneur is a way of living - not just a way to make a living.

Team Tunky Unites at Race for the Cure

My husband and I joined our dear friends, Lisa and Hubert Riley, at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure to honor the memory of Hubert's mother, Tunky, and my 28 year old sister, Liz, who both lost their lives to breast cancer.

Ann "Tunky" Riley, the former First Lady of South Carolina, lost her life on March 7th from complications to her second battle with breast cancer at the age of 72. Married for more than 50 years to Dick Riley, former Governor of South Carolina and Secretary of Education to President Clinton, Tunky was a devoted mother and grandmother to her four children and 13 grandchildren. She was also a tireless advocate for public education, helping her husband with the Education Improvement Act (EIA) - public school reforms that paved the way to his appointment to the U.S. Department of Education.

“Gracious and kind in every situation,” remembers former state Superintendent of Education Inez Tenenbaum. “She was a friend to everyone she knew. If you were one of her close friends, you considered yourself to be very fortunate.”

Allyson Collins Does Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Liz's Memory

Last year my mother and I co-captained a Relay for Life team for the American Cancer Society in Liz’s memory for the first time. We raised over $22,000 – breaking all fundraising records – and won four awards in the process. For several reasons (mainly busy schedules), we will not be doing it this year. However for the third year in a row, our dear friend, Allyson Collins, will be doing the two day, 40 mile Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in my sister's memory.

Allyson was with my family through all of Liz's illness and was incredibly supportive. Despite living, working and going to school in San Francisco, she visited Liz every time she was hospitalized. During the end of Liz's life - while Allyson was in finals at school - she drove to Stockton every day she could (sometimes in the middle of the night) and held vigil in the hospital with us. She slept on the floor of my mother's house the nights immediately following Liz's death and held my hand as I walked behind my sister's casket, barely able to watch my 24 year old brother and husband be some of the young men to carry it.

We are forever grateful to Allyson for her dedication to our family and Liz's memory. Please join me in supporting her efforts to raise money for this wonderful cause. You can make a donation by going to Allyson's personal page before July 12th (click here).
