Angelina Jolie has become just as popular for her humanitarian efforts as she has for her blockbuster films over the past few years. She has been a champion for a number of causes ranging from Doctors Without Borders to The Alliance for the Lost Boys. She is also a goodwill ambassador for UNHCR. The most recent issue that she is focused on is helping with the 2010 floods in Pakistan.
Over 20 million people were left homeless after Pakistan’s worst flooding in decades. With the death toll reaching up to 1,600, it is crucial that the global community contribute to the relief efforts. Despite the magnitude of the tragedy, the crisis has not received as much media attention as the Haitian earthquake in 2009. Jolie hopes to use her limelight to raise awareness to this issue. She plans on providing financial support as well as physical aid and encourages others to do the same.
