On May 22 an extremely devastating tornado hit Joplin, Missouri, causing the highest death toll since 1947. The tornado left 151 dead, 990 injured and many missing. The tornado was declared the seventh deadliest in U.S. history. In light of the tragedy, Brad and Angelina decided to donate $500,000 to the Community Foundation of the Ozarks.
“With the devastating loss of thirty percent of the city, the Joplin community faces great challenges ahead. Having spent much of my childhood there, I know these people to be hardworking, humble and especially resilient,” Brad Pitt, a Missouri native, told the Foundation.
With the large donation, the foundation now has over $1 million to help support the areas harmed by the tornado. Jolie and Pitt hope that their contribution can help the Joplin residents to keep their heads up and continue making progress.
