Congratulations, Nancy Brinker, of Susan G. Komen for the Cure!
On August 12, Nancy Brinker, was honored by President Obama with the highest civilian honor in the country, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, for her achievements in the fight against breast cancer for over 27 years.
The Presidential Medal of Freedom was designed to recognize those individuals who have made a significant contribution to the interests of our nation. Thanks to Nancy Brinker, more than 1.3 billion dollars have been invested in breast cancer research, education, and community health programs across the country and its borders. Thanks to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, these new treatments have saved lives and brought increasing support for the millions of women and men facing this disease.
Similar to Uptown Liz, Susan G. Komen for the Cure was created in the memory for the founder’s late sister. Nancy Brinker made the promise to her sister that other families fighting breast cancer would not have to suffer the way she and her family did. There is no better example of one person making such a difference.
